The Spinal Cord

The 31 pairs of spinal nerves branching off the spinal cord exit the spine through the nerve holes (vertebral foramina) in order to travel to all parts of the body. When one or more vertebrae lose their normal position, they interfere with the nervous system that the vertebral bones were meant to house and protect. This interference can cause pressure or irritation on the spinal cord, resulting in dysfunction to the organs and tissues those nerves were meant to serve.
